Homebound Instruction/Services are designed to provide continuity of educational instruction between the classroom and the home and/or hospital setting. Homebound Instruction/Services support regular or special education students who are, as a result of health care treatment, physical illness, accident, psychiatric needs or the treatment thereof, are temporarily unable to attend school for a period of eleven (11) days or more. Homebound Instruction/Services are in accordance with the Iberia Parish curriculum and are designed to ensure that the student can successfully reengage into the instructional program upon return to school.
Students may qualify for homebound services when enrolled in a public school with a written request from the attending medical physician. The request for homebound placement must include a course of care and treatment , “Treatment Plan,” as determined by the attending physician (medical and/or psychiatric). The student’s Treatment Plan must be updated by the attending medical/mental health professional every 9 weeks. Therefore, it is imperative that the parent and/or legal guardian schedules and keeps medical appointments to ensure the continuation of homebound instruction/services as needed.
Homebound Instruction/Services should be used as a last resort after all other options and/or alternative schedules have been exhausted.
